PDC cutters are also named Polycrystalline Diamond Compact cutters, PDC bits, or PDC inserts. They consist of a Polycrystalline Diamond layer and a carbide substrate. The diamond is grown directly on the carbide substrate.
PDC Cutters are manufactured from tungsten carbide substrate and synthetic diamond grit. This process uses a combination of high temperature and high pressure with a catalyst of cobalt alloy to bond the diamond and carbide during sintering. During cooling, the tungsten carbide shrinks 2.5 times faster than the diamond, creating a powerful mechanical bond.
